Special Pitbull Policy

An excerpt from LHS's Euthanasia Policy -
"Pit Bulls and Pit Bull mixes: The shelter, by necessity, will have a different adoption policy when it comes to Pit Bulls and Pit Bull mixes.  Simply put, the shelter's intake of this breed far exceeds the public's demand to adopt dogs of this breed.  Other shelters and rescue groups similarly do not want and will not accept Pit Bulls or Pit Bull mixes.  Therefore, it is likely that pit bulls and pit mixes that fall into the definition of "Adoptable" may have to be put to sleep simply because the shelter will become overloaded and soon run out of space to house them."
It's a great policy for an organization that is supposed to advocate for pitbulls, but their policies seem to have more to do with discrimination than with adoption.  Looks like pitbulls were doomed from the very beginning at LHS.

What about the idea that they should be killed now because the shelter will "soon run out of space"?

Wouldn't it make more sense to focus on adopting these dogs out before the shelter runs out of space?  Apparently it's not necessary to put forth too much effort when paychecks are handed out regardless, and are not dependent on how many dogs actually get out alive.

Also in their policies -
"Pit Bulls or Pit mixes exhibiting signs of aggression towards humans or any other animals should be humanely put to sleep.  Pit Bulls or Pit mixes which have been used as fighting dogs, or as bait for fighting dogs, should be humanely put to sleep."
HOWEVER
"Small dogs or toy breeds exhibiting dog or other animal aggression should be evaluated on a per-animal basis."
Does anyone else find this disturbing?

It's especially troubling that one of Liberty Humane Society's Facebook page moderators, who supports their unnecessary killing of adoptable animals, flaunts stories of her Yorkie running loose and killing small animals as a way to deal with his aggression.

And what about rehabilitated fighting dogs (e.g. rehomed Vick dogs) or bait dogs who may not have any issues what-so-ever other than being tied up, abused, and thrown in as target practice?

Sounds like more incompetence coming from people who are extremely underqualified and who should not be left making life or death decisions.
