Diana Jeffrey Gets S.L.A.P.P.-ed Back

This was the complaint filed by Howard Myerowitz, Diana Jeffrey's husband and law partner, on behalf of Liberty Humane Society, Diana Jeffrey, Nicole Dawson, John Hanussak, and Melissa Moylan (John Hanussak's wife).

It was linked to an article posted on www.nj.com, as a word document, without Howard Myerowitz's signature, before the complaint was even filed or received by the court.  How very professional of them.

However, while doing some online research about S.L.A.P.P. lawsuits, I came across this:

"A SLAPP lawsuit is one that seeks to intimidate those who exercise legitimate expression of their interests and make demands to participate in public processes."

Special Pitbull Policy

An excerpt from LHS's Euthanasia Policy -

"Pit Bulls and Pit Bull mixes: The shelter, by necessity, will have a different adoption policy when it comes to Pit Bulls and Pit Bull mixes.  Simply put, the shelter's intake of this breed far exceeds the public's demand to adopt dogs of this breed.  Other shelters and rescue groups similarly do not want and will not accept Pit Bulls or Pit Bull mixes.  Therefore, it is likely that pit bulls and pit mixes that fall into the definition of "Adoptable" may have to be put to sleep simply because the shelter will become overloaded and soon run out of space to house them."

It's a great policy for an organization that is supposed to advocate for pitbulls, but their policies seem to have more to do with discrimination than with adoption.  Looks like pitbulls were doomed from the very beginning at LHS.

What about the idea that they should be killed now because the shelter will "soon run out of space"?

John Hanussak Threatens to Kill Feral Cats

Oh, by the way, here is a message by one of LHS's new board members.  He is threatening to kill 6 feral cats unless YOU help (meaning give him money), because they are looking at his house.

Maybe for a low cost solution he can ask fellow cohort and LHS Executive Director to "borrow" a few extra bottles and a needle, and take a tour of his neighborhood?

Diana Jeffrey Resigns, Niki Dawson Continues as Acting Executive Director

Diana Jeffrey resigned from the Board of Directors, and her name was taken off the website faster than you can say "Euthasol."  However, there has been no mention of her resignation anywhere including the official LHS facebook page.  I wonder why it's being kept hush hush.

Interim Board Blaming No-Kill even though Liberty Humane Society has Never been a No-Kill Shelter

Diana Jeffrey, attorney and LHS interim board member took it upon herself to put the shelter in long term jeopardy by filing a S.L.A.P.P. (Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Participation) lawsuit against volunteers in order to silence them.  In this complaint, Diana Jeffrey (or should I say attorney husband Howard Myerowitz) spells out the previous administration's problems, and blames No-Kill.

Niki Dawson's 20 Years Experience Still Can't Pass State Inspection

Niki Dawson, Acting Executive Director for Liberty Humane Society, was given this position through the "Good ol' Boys Club," but the State Inspection Report shows the shelter amassing serious violations.  

I would like to know Niki Dawson's explanation for:

"1.13(c) Medical records were routinely destroyed once an animal is euthanized or otherwise removed from the facility."

With all her experience, she should really know the NJ Shelter Regulations by heart to say the least.  Not only can these regulations be found on the Official NJ State Website, but they are also posted on Animal Welfare Federation of NJ, the organization that Niki Dawson is President of!  

How is something so simple as keeping medical records on file overlooked?  Unless this was done purposefully to hide information from the public about how many animals were really being killed.  You can't claim ignorance on this one, but I'm sure if Niki Dawson can't explain, Diana Jeffrey would be happy to concoct another excuse for her.

Dogs with Ringworm at LHS?

I am hearing there is a canine ringworm outbreak at the shelter.

I thought you folks had everything under control with the "industry standard disease prevention protocols" that are now in place.  I believe at Tuesday's board meeting Al Martino made it a point to mention that ringworm and panleuk epidemics have now been controlled.

Did you just miss those few dogs, or is that another issue that is being kept hush hush?

Not to mention cages were supposedly absolutely filthy.  Are you still feeding dogs in their filthy cages before cleaning the shit out of them, literally?  Or are we waiting for another avoidable Giardia and Coccidia problem to take hold?

Diana Jeffrey Lies at Board Meeting 11.30.10

Board meeting?  Yes, there was a board meeting at City Hall on Tuesday, November 30th.  Weren't you invited, or encouraged to attend?  Not to worry, I was forwarded a full transcript and recording of the meeting which will be published in a following post.

At the commencement of this board meeting, Diana Jeffrey read a letter addressing Janice Kruk, the board, and the five or six other people who were in attendance.  Small turnout, no?

Her letter was a poor excuse of an explanation for "the email" in which she implicated Janice Kruk for falsifying public documents, and announced Aurora Piacentino was routinely "cleaning house" (sans bleach and windex).

Her excuse?  She was gossiping in a joking and lighthearted manner.  I don't know about you, but I can't find anything funny about killing animals.

We're Back #5

This page has gone through several iterations on facebook from Liberty Humane Society Uncensored, to New Jersey Animal Advocates, to Animal Advocates Uncensored, but the cause has always remained the same - to end the needless killing of adoptable animals at the Liberty Humane Society in Jersey City, NJ.  

For some reason, each time we exposed (or just offered to expose) the truth about LHS, its board, its management, and its wrongdoing our page was taken down.  Why? 

Back when the interim board held their first board meeting on August 17th, 2010 volunteers raised concerns, but the board was dancing around the subjects that were most critical.  In the end, they offered us “transparency”.  They gave none, but at least they offered, right?

Well we are here to continue the fight for these animals, and to let the public know what has really been going on at LHS.  We are disgusted, and we will NOT be silenced.  You should be ashamed of yourselves.

And for those of you in denial, who believe and support the lies that you are being fed by the board, or just remain quiet because you think you’re helping the animals, open your eyes...because if you’re not part of the solution, you’re part of the problem.
