Animals not adding up?

Try to follow this logic...LHS's Petfinder page has 37 dogs listed. Of these 37 dogs, 19 or 51% ARE NOT IN THE SHELTER. That leaves LHS with 18 "adoptable" dogs.

LHS also receives approx. $300,000 from Jersey City per year to operate. So you mean to tell me that, aside from the cats, ALL that taxpayer money is used to house 216 dogs per year? 216...which is a FAR cry from the "inner-city high volume animal facility" they are portraying.

Unless, they really are "high-volume", but then HOW MANY DOGS ARE YOU ACTUALLY "EUTHANIZING"?!?

Check their published 2010 animal stats to see for yourselves:  LHS 2010 Animal Stats

Something just doesn't seem right, ya know?  First of all, during the months of May, June, and July, the new board claims the failure was due to the previous administration's No-Kill policy in which they were hoarding over 100 dogs at a time.  Why are the total dog intake numbers for those three months so low if the shelter was hoarding over 100 dogs?

Secondly, the current board claims LHS took in over 2,500 animals in 2010.  If you can't do basic mathematics, please take out your calculators.  You will find that dog intake for the year was 692, and cat intake was 1,713, for a total of 2,405 (not including other animals and wildlife).  However, the outcome is 706 dogs and 1,553 cats, for a total of 2,259 animals (not including other animals and wildlife).

OK.  So in 2010 LHS took in 2,405 cats and dogs, but can only account for the outcome of 2,259.  Where are the other 146?  Dead, bagged, and buried?  Abducted by aliens?

And how do you have more dogs going out, than you do coming in?

What about Wildlife and other animals?  LHS took in 120, and can only account for the outcome of 103?  I don't personally see a resident goat at the shelter...anyone?
